Tilt garage doors in Melbourne and Mornington are rigid one-piece extension spring* or counter-weight balanced doors that swing out and up as they open.
There are two types of spring balanced hinges available that control the opening and closing action of tilt doors.
Less expensive, lighter duty "Jamb" model hinges suit doors up to 2240mm high and 3000mm wide, or 90kg in weight. This hinge allows approximately half the door to protrude out when up, giving a slight veranda effect when open. Jamb tilt doors need approximately 100mm clearance from the top of the opening to the ceiling ("headroom").
More expensive, heavier duty "Track" model hinges suit doors up to 2740mm high (although at Garage Door & Gate Solutions we recommend them only up to 2440mm high), and 5500mm wide, or 160kg in weight. This hinge, although still protruding while the door opens and closes, allows the majority of the door panel to retract back into the garage when open. Track tilt doors need approximately 150mm headroom above the door opening.
Track hinges are inherently safer, stronger, smoother and more durable than Jamb hinges. Tilt doors with either of these hinges lie flat under the head of the opening when up, therefore losing the door thickness from the height of the opening, up to 150mm on most two car wide doorways.
Tilt garage doors in Melbourne and Mornington that are either too high or too heavy for spring balanced hinges can be supplied with traditional counter-weight balanced hinges. These are custom engineered for the door panel, as opposed to spring balanced hinges that are economically mass produced by B&D in kits, and then added to a made-to-measure door panel.
Due to the tilt door's custom-made one-piece construction, we manufacture this door in a wide variety of materials, textures, colors and designs. Barn door styles from the early 1900's can be replicated, through to ultra contemporary powder-coatedaluminum, or flush plywood with or without moldings or grooved "shadow" lines, or windows of any shape. Practical Color bond or Metallic Color bond roof and wall cladding can be used on a tilt door, as can warm rich Western Red Cedar timber, with its characteristic color variety from blonde to dark boards.
Due to the variety of materials that tilt garage doors in Melbourne and Mornington can be produced from, the weight and therefore width varies enormously. Where light weight cladding is used, width of over 7 meters is achievable.
All tilt door frames made by Garage Door & Gate Solutions consist of galvanized square steel tube, mig welded together by experienced Welders in our factory in Braeside. Each frame is unique, and designed and drawn in-house, to suit the size and cladding used. Optimum strength and low weight is achieved by using modern, light wall tubing of various sizes. Minimizing weight keeps the cost down and helps the door's hinges and opener last longer.
Variety and the ability to work in relatively little headroom are the main strengths of tilt garage doors in Mornington and Melbourne. Our showroom displays around 28 different tilt door sample configurations. So selecting a customized door style in harmony with your home is simple.
*Extension springs stretch as the door closes and contract as the door opens, to balance the door weight. All tilt up garage door springs, when stretched hold an enormous amount of tension (even when the door is open), ready to balance the weight of the door as it opens and closes, and as such should only be adjusted by experienced professionals using correct equipment.
